It’s amazing what you can get done once your baby learns to nap independently. Don’t get me wrong I love those contact naps but having the freedom to get things done is a feeling that can’t be matched. Something I was able to accomplish during all those lovely contact naps was catching up on tv shows. I really got my money’s worth for all these subscriptions and finished a couple tv shows I had just waiting for me. One of them was Black Lightning on Netflix.

I only had season 4 left to watch but when I went to start it I remembered nothing from the recap so of course, I did the only logical thing left, I started it over from the very beginning. I’m actually really glad I started over. With season 4 being the last season I was able to fully appreciate how awesome this show was. It seriously needed more credit than it got. As a black person, I love how this middle-class black family is portrayed and shown in the first season. I say the first season because once powers and other things get introduced and become the focus of the show, some things start to slide. It was a real shame that the network didn’t work harder to incorporate this show fully into the Arrowverse because it had SOOOO much potential. It would have opened it up to a wider audience and introduced a family dynamic for all the other superheroes to look up to that they didn’t get from Oliver in Arrow. #JustSaying. I didn’t love how the show ended but I was satisfied with how they wrapped up the show at the end of season 4. The main villain from the beginning of the show was taken care of, the current villain of the season was revealed and also taken care of and there was a somewhat happy ending. (I’m trying really hard not to give away spoilers here). There was a backdoor pilot for another show that I soooo wish was picked up but it just feels like CW is done with superhero shows for now.
A show that I wasn’t as happy with once I finally watched the ending of was Roswell New Mexico.

I was starting to lose interest in this show for a while, I think when doppelgangers were introduced and they just kept finding ways to keep the dream couple apart. Like wwwhhhyyyyy?? It felt like they were creating conflict and drama where it wasn’t needed. There was enough going on. I finished watching it I think purely out of obligation and the fact that I only had like 3 or 4 episodes left. I loved the actors and I think the casting was perfect but everything got so lost. It started off with a sort of political push which was interesting but then it wasn’t brought up again. In the end, I was disappointed with the direction it went and really felt nothing when I finished the last episode. The first season is really good though and I would watch that over just to forget how the show ends.
I get a lot of flack for liking this show but I finally finished all of Designated Survivor on Netflix.

Again, season 1 of this show is really good and exciting but I think I stopped watching purely because a character I really liked was killed off. I was protesting and never went back to it. There was a lot of potential but the main character lost what made him interesting in the first place and became just like everyone else. By the end, I think he realized it but by then it was too late. I’m really glad I finished the show and got that closure. I always compare this show to Madam Secretary (which I also finally finished but didn’t like the final season) but I think Madam Secretary did a better job of navigating the political field while keeping the quirks of the main character that made us fall in love with the show in the first place throughout the seasons. I kind of wish I never finished Madam Secretary because then I would still be in love with the characters. Instead, I was kind of disappointed with the character developments in the final season and how they decided to wrap everything up. It just felt really rushed and desperate to put a shiny bow on everything.
So While I was working my way through finally finishing shows I’d already started, I started watching a new one just for the heck of it so I started watching the National Treasure TV show on Disney+.

I really had no expectations for this show. I knew nothing about it before starting and was pleasantly surprised with the casting. The lead actor Lisette Olivera has some moments where she could pass as Zendaya’s little sister or maybe a twin. Even their speech patterns are similar which was cool but weird. The opening song for the show also reminded me of Game of Thrones so that was also a cool touch. I wasn’t surprised or upset when it didn’t get renewed for another season because it felt like season 1 wrapped up everything quite well.
I have quite a lot of other shows on my list to just power through and finish but I keep getting stuck in the same places and switching over to reading books instead. Right now I’m working my way through Scandal, Blindspot, The Runaways, and Nick and I just started Grey’s Anatomy so I’ve got a lot of choices for my downtime. Not to mention the other shows I’m up to date on like the Chicago shows. If you have any suggestions for tv shows to try I’m always up for that new show feeling 🙂
