Book Review – Fourth Wing! Fly…Or Die.

It’s been about a month since my last post but I have good reason, I promise. Firstly, I’ve been reading a bunch. Both from whatever I get for free with Amazon Prime on the Kindle app, and then from my library of e-books I’ve been collecting. There hasen’t been anything ground breaking, just enough to fill the time while nursing and going to sleep at night. That is, until I finally read a book I’ve been seeing EVERYWHERE!! I am sooo soo glad I gave in and finally read it because it was an AMAZING read. (I finished it in 2 days!)

The book that finally got me super excited to read again is Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.

If you want to get it on Amazon, here’s the link:

I was fully invested in this book from the very first chapter. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where the author does truly a good job in building a new world for me to get lost in. It felt comfortable to be in the main character’s (Violet) head and going through all her thoughts. I don’t want to give away the plot or any details so I’ll do my best to explain what I liked about it that made me want to read it over as soon as I finished it. Within the first couple chapters I was laughing out loud, trying to slow down my reading and contain my excitement.

Firstly, there are dragons (I think that’s already in the blurb) and ever since GoT I’ve been liking dragons. There’s an underdog storyline going that you can’t help but be hopeful about but then you can’t really trust anything with everything else going on so you never know what’s going to happen. (Can you tell that Game of Thrones scarred me?). Every time she got past another obstacle there still isn’t that safe feeling. Nothing about this book was predictable which I LOVED. It kept me on my toes, forcing me to pay attention just to make sure I don’t miss anything. I love that the Dragons and magical parts of the story are somewhat secondary which makes it easier to relate to. All of her issues were extreme but still realistic given the type of world she’s in. I also loved that there wasn’t just one obstacle to overcome and the book didn’t just end when it seemed like she’d made it. There always felt like if there was something more to discover which kept pushing me to read more, which is probably why I finished it in 2 days.

Overall, I was reminded a bit of The Remnant Chronicles and maybe the Hunger Games a little more. I didn’t read it but from watching the movie, it also reminded me a bit of Eragon as well.

I don’t know what else to say about it without giving too much away except this book is amazing and everyone should go read it. I think it has some Harry Potter potential, definitely Hunger Games and what Divergent could have been. I have no doubt that someone eventually with pick it up and turn it into a movie. Hopefully when they make that decision they do it right and listen to what the readers want.

I’m off to pre-order book 2 and find some other things I can get lost in before starting over the book 🙂

Happy reading!
